Lonehollow’s curriculum is built on a full-circle approach to living. For example, campers learning to fish don’t just learn to bait and handle their catch. They learn how to string the line, set the hook, use a trot line, clean and fillet their catch, and then enjoy eating it. In horseback, they don’t just learn to sit still and follow the horse ahead. Lonehollow campers learn to saddle and bridle their own horses, guide their horse individually through a course, then unsaddle and brush them down before releasing them to pasture. Through this approach we are able to teach campers independence, how to anticipate challenges and understanding of natural consequences.
