Why co-ed?
We live in a co-ed society. Lonehollow is an environment where campers learn to interact respectfully, appropriately, and honestly with one another through the mentoring and role-modeling of older, yet young adults serving as their guides.

How will classes be taught?
Our classes will have 10-15 children. They will start with safety and the basics and build up to their ability. Your child will be encouraged with every step.

Will boys and girls be in same class?
Classes will vary, some will be mixed boys and girls, others will be gender and age specific.

Where is the camp located?
Lonehollow is located in the Texas Hill Country, between Utopia and Vanderpool on the scenic trail.

What ages does Lonehollow offer its program to this summer.
This summer we are accepting boys and girls in the age range of 7 to 14 years old.
Lonehollow will grow with it's campers, adding new programs for older children and teenagers in future summers.

What does Lonehollow have to offer?
The individuals of Lonehollow share the same philosophy, CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE. We believe by giving the children an opportunity to disconnect with the outside world; they will be able to connect with their abilities and nature. They will explore traits and talents they never knew existed. Our goals are to teach a child that challenges in life are more rewarding when you start at the beginning and end with the satisfaction of knowing it was you and/or your team that made this happen. We want them to understand that failing is not a disgrace; it is a way to improve and grow. Giving up is not an option; it is an opportunity to reach down inside themselves and with the help and support of our guides, learn anything is possible. You just have to believe! The surroundings of Lonehollow will give your child the sense of security, but also, limitless challenges. They will come through our gates not knowing what lies ahead, but will exit our gates with high self-esteem, knowledge, friendships, and confidence. They will feel and know that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to!

What is my child going to receive from Lonehollow?
Leadership skills, building self-esteem, self-confidence. Campers learn about nature and wildlife. They learn how to work together and build friendships for life.

What will activities teach them?
Our teaching method is the “full circle” approach. Each class is taught by starting with the basics and working its way to a point where campers are confident they have mastered the activity. Example: Fishing- They are taught the basics, opportunities to fish, ending with catching, cleaning, cooking and finally the reward – feasting on their catch.

Spiritual growth?
Lonehollow's Sundays start with a non-denominational service with songs, skits, and an inspirational message given by counselors and even campers who want to share with the camp family. At Taps there is an all-camp message and an evening prayer read by a camper and broadcast over the on-camp radio station.

What is the counselor ratio and age?
Each cabin will have 2 Guides to 10 Campers, and all our guides are over 18 years old.
We feel strongly that individual attention is a key component to an excellent camp experience..

Does the camp do a background check on the staff?
Yes, this is a part of our mandatory hiring policy. In addition guides are interviewed by multiple parties before a hiring decision is made.

Are there competitions between campers?
Yes, in a team building environment where the emphasis is on working together not necessarily on winning.

Can I bring my iPod, gameboy, or any other personal electronics?
We feel strongly about the experience that Lonehollow provides and that these devices detract from our adventure.

Digital Cameras
We ask that campers do not bring digital cameras to camp, campers however are encouraged to bring disposable cameras to be developed later by their parents.

Letters from home … how about packages, gifts?
We encourage letter writing between campers and parents. However, packages need to be limited to necessities, example: pair of glasses

Where do you find your guides? What is your interview process like?
Our staff is found through many different avenues. They are screened, background checked, and interviewed by recruiting staff. They are then hired by the Director.

Homesickness?
We know children are leaving the security of their parents' home to come stay in an unfamiliar place. Our staff will be trained to detect signs and get right on it. Our goal is to make everyone feel Lonehollow is their home away from home.

How do you handle discipline?
If a camper or campers behavior results in a situation where discipline is needed, our staff and directors take the time to assess the situation, to listen to both sides, and to act appropriately. Most situations are small and are taken care of in the cabin with their cabin guides. These situations can be used as a teachable moment on how to resolve conflict in the group setting; a life skill that benefits campers when they enter the adult world. If it cannot be handled inside the cabin, our directors talk and listen to the camper(s) to figure out the best way to remedy the conflict. We are here to build one up, not tear down an individual. Positive reinforcement & redirection is our goal. We do not want to embarrass a child; we want to give guidance.

Will my child be safe? This is an adventure camp, what is your position on safety?
Safety is our #1 priority. We are very active, so no doubt we will have some scrapes and bruises. We hope that with our well trained staff they will be few & far between. Our goal is to keep all children out of harms way. Guides and campers will be informed of all rules & regulations. This will help prevent unsafe situations. Each activity station is equipped with a first aid kit and a radio for communication with main office.
